Thursday, May 16, 2019 On way to Minnesota to visit with Dave and go to Boundary Waters. On route to Pittsburgh Airport - Made my first mistake getting off on the wrong exit (60B) and went through town - first panic - phone GPS ot working the whole way to Pittsburgh, couldn't get a signal. Then arrived at the furthest parking spot - section D. and when checking through security they never asked me if I had anything to check. So now I'm stuck with my bag - carry-on AND a suitcase! I'm tired & hungry. About 11:30 now not hungry - two bars (health) did the trick. I brought 10 rolls of film. 6 PanF+ & 4 TriX400. I spoke too soon- Infant crying - don't know if they are on our airplane or not. Imagine having to travel with kids or in a wheelchair. What are my handicaps? I have none except sometimes my brain is not my friend. All these people have lives. And we're off! It's rather mesmerizing. The sound of the engine blocking out any other noise of voices. It's loud, but it's ok. Imagination took a vacation. Saturday, May 18, 2019, Day1 Sheridan Lake 8 miles from the launch pad. Our transport arrived at 8:00AM and we loaded the canoe on his little green metal power boat. It was kind of cold but fun. Last night we gathered up the gear from the outfitter and walked around on the main street looking at souvenirs and t-shirts. Nothing really caught my eyes but Dave asked one of the sales people about decoys and antiques for Ron. So she gave us the name of a place called Fox & Chickens or Fox & Hens Antiques. We found several spear fishing lures so I bought one for Ron from the 50's. It was red and white polka-dot with thumb-tack eyes for $85. I think he'll like it. We're making dinner now & we started a fire. It's so peaceful. The wind just picked up and it seems like it's getting chillier. Sunday, May 19, 2019, Day2 Temperature around 40degrees and windy. We paddled quite the distance today. It was so cold my fingers almost froze and there were white caps on the lake. We went very slowly! I was almost at the point of shivering and had to change clothes several times to get warm. Once warm I was able to start shooting with my pinhole camera. Shot an entire roll of 12 images! Last night (Saturday) was cold in the tent. I couldn't get warm at all. Forgot to put on my fleece pants & do't remember what else. The sleeping bag was rated for zero, but didn't have the usual filling because the pad is part of the bag and acts as an insulator. It didn't work and wasn't a mummy bag. Tonight I will dress better. It's about time for dinner now. It will get dark soon. So very windy, Dave put up the wind tarp so we could sit under it. So windy & cold! 4 layers of pants & tops & two coats & two hats & now I feel great! It's really wonderful with no people around. We are in a wilderness heaven on an island to boot! I think I could get into this big time! Last night (Saturday) I shot a few images with the Holga. Time to reload. With the Holga 120N, PanF 50+ Sheridan Lake Monday, May 20, 2019 Day3 Last night Chile for dinner. So hungry after a long day. Shot an entire roll of film. This morning woke up with no sound of wind. The sun was already up. Not as cold. Wore fleece bergelene pants & legging, bergelene heavy under shirt. Dave loaned me his sleeping bag liner. We put hand warmers in the sleeping bag. I stayed warm all night. The Chile didn't agree with my stomach to well so might not repeat the Chile. Coffee's great. Dave caught a fish - Small Mouth Bass. I had some, we split it. Then Grains & Mushrooms from Patagonia. Coffee! The birds are chirping. The reflections are glistening on the water. So quiet. Loaded two fresh rolls of film labled #2 in the cannister. Time for breakfast part two! Tomorrow we paddle a short distance to the next portage then carry our packs another short distance. Our last camp out is close to the pickup point for Wednesday morning at 10:00. I can't believe it's been here and gone. Well, only 1 day. We just saw an eagle go by. Dave caught a Northern Pike. Apparently they know when a fish has been caught. The longest portage was 1 mile. the packs felt like they weighed 50 lbs, but Dave says they're less. The waterfall we saw was Lake Sheridan emptying in to Carp Lake. We took cell phone pics and Dave took his digital camera pics. A seagull has landed at our campsite looking for the fish Dave caught. The amazing thing is I've had no beer since Friday night, and I do't even miss it! And no radio or TV! I had no idea the backs would be as heavy as they were. A back pack is nothing! Tuesday, May 21, 2019 Day4 68 degrees, zero % chance of rain Today is our final day. The weather has been perfect except for the one day of 13 mph winds. It started out overcast but yesterday & today sunny. I shot another roll of film in the ZeroImage2000 on the island that we're staying tonight. The sun makes the lighting very harsh because I'm shooting mid-day. This morning there was mist on the water. We both got a few pictures. I managed to lift my pack and got it onto my back without help! On the last leg of our paddle today we saw an eagle and some "humans"! No humans since Sunday. I can see why Dave & Meredith stay for 10 days. It's only 3:30 now and I'm finished shooting (for now). Just taking time to relax finally. Primeval forest with no hand of man. No jet skiis, no humans, no signs of humans. No man made sounds. The sounds we hear are later in the evening after the sun went down. We heard Loons, Seagulls, saw some mergansers, a beaver, an eagle. Not too many birds during the day. Early morning & later evening. Last night we stayed up later and saw the stars, a satellite and a jet. Alot of dead trees. It's extremely dry. Pine needles cover the floor of the forest like a carpet. There's also moss. Must be the only thing that will grow. Very rocky. Cedar trees, shrubbery, some type of lilly by the edge of the water bank. Maybe "Flag". It always gets cooler when the sun goes down or when the wind picks up. 3:00 AM 80% chance of rain 9:00 AM 80% chance of rain 14 mph winds 41 degrees in morning - layer up! Expect cold, It's getting chilly now! Above (top image) made with the pinhole at our last island stop before heading back. The one below it was made with the Holga, which gives a very dream-like perspective of where we were. Also made with the Holga on the day before heading home. Wednesday, May 22, 2019 Day5 - Dave's Birthday! Last day of our trip. Not too much wind or rain as predicted. Not as much as previous Sunday (5/19). Not as cold either. Paddled to portage in about 1/2 hour, expecting it to take 1 hour. Stopped for coffee & burritos at the local coffee shop and then headed for home. On the way back we stopped at a nice little organic whole foods store, locally owned. Great dinner. Bought some beer too! Thursday, May 23, 2019 back home in Minnesota Dave and I went out to his swamp land and trekked through the mud with his '6-wheeler' that looked like a mini tank! It rides the water like a boat and it's a 'real' swamp! Cameras set up on the trees to track the deer, buckets of corn to feed them so they'll come back. I took my cameras & got some pinhole & Holga shots. Hope they turn out. It was so bumpy we almost fell out. Hanging on for dear life with all my might! Checked out his deer stands. Took pictures of them. Then, back home for brewskies and dinner. Very very tired! Good night! Friday, May 24, 2019 Dave went to work today so the rest of us slept in. Meredith & I had a nice long chat, all day. About everything. Then we made almond milk from scratch. 1 cup almonds to 4 cups water soaked over night, then rinse and combine almonds with 4 cups water & blend in blender, then put in nut bag (like fine mesh) and let drain into 4 qt bowl or container for a few hours. Then wash hands & squeeze, put in bottle and refridgerate for 4-5 days. Enjoy! Jeannette is coming home tonight for the mini-triathlon tomorrow in Wadena. Then Sunday I fly home at 7:00 Am! Alot of memories . A great trip. Saturday, May 25, 2019 Wadena Triathlon Today we volunteered for the triathlon in Wadena. Jeannette came in 2nd place! I got up at 4 because my clock was on Eastern time zone! After lunch we went to the National Wildlife Refuge. Everyone is exhausted. Came home, packed. Tomorrow leave for home at 4:00 AM. Looking forward to developing pictures. Dave took a picture of me as a joke. Then dinner. I was drooling over the venison steak, but had my vegan instead. All packed up. Great visit. Time to go home & face reality. Maybe go to Maine or Adirondacks. 4:00 AM comes early. Sunday, May 26, 2019 3:45 AM Up and Adam! Made it to Minneapolis/St Paul without a hitch. Feeling rather sad after leaving Dave. As if there's still an emptyness in my heart. I didn't feel it when I was with him. But I do now. We talked about my committment to hiking. Just gotta do it. Bike Hike whatever! Should reach Pittsburgh around noon. Getting crowded now. 1/2 hour or so till lift off. Can't wait to develop my film. Loaded new roll n Holga - panF 50. Listening to Spotify helps with the wait. These images were all made with the ZeroImage2000 6x6 Deluxe 'Back to Nature' Series pinhole camera. Film used was Ilford PanF+ 50 @ ei 50, all developed in Kodak HC110 dilution "H" And these made with the Holga 120N. Also, film used was Ilford PanF+ @ ei50, developed in HC110 dilution "H"

I don't have a degree in art or photography. My degree was in music. If you can read music, there's no end to what you can do. I have a passion for photography and art and a life time's worth of experience, a lot of common sense and a father and grandfather (both engineers) who gave me the ability to work with tools. If I can do this, anyone can. It's not difficult, and it is fun! Archives
