Workshop: The World of Analog Photography
We regret to announce that due to the pandemic, all workshops have been put on hold.
Workshop:
Duration: 1-2 hours class is flexible
The class I am offering is for individuals who are interested in shooting with film and in learning the technical side of operating an SLR film camera. We will be looking at the functions of f/stops (apertures) and shutter speeds. We’ll learn about the different types of light meters and how to understand their readings. If you’ve ever wondered how they work or are tired of the endless menus on the back of your camera, then we may be able to help you overcome that. Knowledge and understanding of the equipment you are using is half the battle. Once that is mastered, you can focus on the thrill of image making.
We begin by briefly reviewing (1) how to use f/stops and shutter speeds; (2) how to set the functions on the camera and light meter. The course then proceeds through the process of (3) properly loading the film in the camera, (4) taking and understanding a meter reading.
- Intro to Black & White Film Photography; Graduating from a Point & Shoot to a Menu-free SLR. What you need to know about standard film camera functions and light meters.
- Investigating manual film cameras using f/stops, shutter speeds, depth-of-field, ISOs, ASAs, light meters etc.
- Willingness to get down to the basics of operating a film camera on manual settings
- Working Film Camera with Manual Mode, examples: Pentax K1000, Nikon FM2N, Nikkormat
